What is social and community participation under the NDIS?

Social and community programs are part of the NDIS Core Supports – Assistance with Social and Community Participation.

This support is all about helping you take part in everyday life outside your home, whether that’s social, recreational, educational, or cultural activities. It’s designed to build your confidence, independence, and connections with others.

The NDIS may fund this support if it helps you work toward your goals, such as:

  • Making new friendships

  • Building social skills

  • Becoming more active in your community

  • Trying new things in a safe, supported way

You don’t need to be good at socialising, we start wherever you’re comfortable.

Why social and community participation matters

Social and community support can help you:

  • Get out of the house and feel more connected

  • Build friendships in a relaxed, inclusive space

  • Boost your confidence through group and individual activities

  • Explore new hobbies, interests, and skills

  • Stay active, engaged, and part of your local community

It’s not just about being busy, it’s about feeling included and having fun your way.
