Understanding SIL and
how it's funded by the NDIS
Supported Independent Living (SIL) is an NDIS-funded support for people who need 24/7 support to live safely and independently, either in a shared home with others or on their own.

SIL is designed for people with higher or more complex support needs who require help throughout the day (and sometimes overnight) with tasks like:
-
Personal care (e.g. showering, dressing, hygiene)
-
Cooking, cleaning, and managing the household
-
Medication support and mealtime assistance
-
Daily routines and life skills
-
Behavioural or clinical support as needed

SIL is funded under Core Supports - home and living supports. It covers the cost of the support team, not your rent, food, or personal expenses.
To access SIL, the NDIS will usually ask for an assessment to show that this level of support is needed, and that it helps you work toward your long-term goals.

SIL can support people who:
-
Thrive in shared living with a team of support staff
-
Need their own space due to high or complex needs
-
Require intensive or 1:1 support throughout the day and night

Why SIL might be the right next step for you
SIL can help you:
-
Feel more independent while still having support close by
-
Build confidence with daily routines and household tasks
-
Share a home with others while still having your own space
-
Develop life skills like budgeting, cooking, or planning your week
-
Have a consistent team of support workers who know your needs
-
Feel safe and settled in a home environment designed for your support needs

This support is about helping you live life on your terms, with the support you need to make it happen.
